General.Information on AnyBook!Software
Carefully.crafted and well tested, AnyBook is the winner of a number of shareware awards and is highly regarded in the publishing and software worlds.  Designed for small and self-publishers, it generates invoices and billing statements, keeps track of inventory, handles book returns, produces sales reports, records customer payments, tracks consignment items, and creates mailing lists.

"The program very accurately targets [small publishers] with a well documented, thorough array of features." --PC Magazine
It's a shareware program.  That means it's free to try out.  Give it a good test drive and see if it will work for you.  It has a comprehensive help system--and since I use it extensively, I know it works well, and it gets the job done.  I think a lot of small publishers will find it just the sort of thing that they've been waiting for:  easy to understand, easy to use, and designed just for publishing.

Available in Two Series . . .

AnyBook is available in two series: Classic Series and Professional Series. The differences between each of the series and editions are explained below:

The Classic Series is designed for publishers that are just getting started and need a low-cost way of dealing with day-to-day business tasks.  Classic programs are based on the 16-bit programming platform. That means that they were originally programmed for older operating systems.  Classic programs are supported but no new features and enhancements are being added.
The Professional Series is the result of years of research and development and is made up of the premier versions of AnyBook.  This is state-of-the-art business software. Currently, the Professional Series consists of three editions:  Level I, II, and III.  Each higher level provides more options and a larger range of features.  Programmed in 32-bit code, Professional Series programs are designed specifically for newer operating systems.  All new development and enhancements occur with the Professional Series.  More Information.
All AnyBook versions are compatible.  You can move from Level I to Level II, or Level II to Level III, or even from Classic Basic to Professional Level III.  The program will automatically convert data files to the new version.  AnyBook's built in compatibility provides you with the assurance that as your company grows, AnyBook can grow with you.  You can upgrade from one version to another and not lose valuable customer data that you've built up over the years.

Classic Series: Available in Three Editions

Depending on your needs, AnyBook Classic is available in three different editions (Anybook Classic Basic, Classic Standard and ClassicAdvanced).

AnyBook Classic Basic

Features found in AnyBook Basic--and common to all three editions--include:

  • Invoicing. AnyBook!Software will produce neatly printed invoices and packing slips. It has a feature which automatically enters products and customer addresses, saving you typing time.  It handles returns and adjusts your inventory accordingly.
  • Billing.  The program has a sophisticated billing engine which generates monthly billing statements and allows you keep track of customer payments.  It is also includes a Payment Analysis feature which provides you with an alternative way of reviewing a customer's account
  • Inventory.  At any time, you can obtain up-to-date information on how many books are left in inventory.
  • Consigned Books.  If you consign books to stores, or work with a distributor or wholesaler on a consignment basis, AnyBook!Software will help you keep track of consignment inventories, sales and returns.
  • Sales Information. AnyBook! will produce weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales reports.
  • Sales Tax. If you make sales which are subject to state or local sales taxes, Anybook will add the appropriate amount of tax to invoices and supply you with the necessary information to fill out state sales tax reports.
  • Mailing Lists.  The program will create mailing lists which can be imported into nearly all word processing and labeling programs for generating mailing labels or producing mail-merged letters.
AnyBook Classic Standard

Features found in the Classic Standard Edition include all of the Basic features (above), plus:

Contact Manager · Back Order Processing · Invoice Graphics
Payment & Deposit Reports · Weight Calculator · Look-up Lists · Shipping Method Selection · Invoice Counter · Product Categories Advanced Searching · Find & Replace · File Export Capabilities

Information on Self Extracting Zip Files / How to Install the Program:
.
AnyBook's distribution files are placed in a self extracting zip file.  Self extracting zip files make software installation quite easy.  After you download one of the files (above) to a directory on your own computer, double click on the file name.  (For example, you might double click on abadv80.exe.)  A small dialog box will appear with the message: "Ready to Install AnyBook." To start the installation program, click on "Setup."  The main installation program will start, and it's just a matter of following the directions on the screen.

A complete help system accompanies AnyBook. You'll find a "Getting Started" section under the Help Menu.  Additionally, you find enclosed sample invoices, customers and products that will be helpful as you evaluate the program.

Program and Internet safeguards
For.your security, Anybook program files are extensively carefully checked with anti-virus software.  Additionally, they are re-tested and thoroughly scanned for viruses by the download sites, mentioned above.  Lately, some programmers have been inserting code in software which surreptitiously provides information to commercial sites through Internet connections.  I find such practices repugnant and unethical.  You can be assured that AnyBook is complete free of any such code.

Registration Costs
There's.no cost to download the software and evaluate it.  The downloaded version allows you to try-out and review all parts of the program.

If you decide to use AnyBook in your business, then I ask that you register the software.  The registration costs are very reasonable:

           AnyBook Classic Basic:  $39
           AnyBook Classic Standard:  $59
           AnyBook Clasic Advanced: $89

All data files are compatible.  You can move from one program to next as your business grows.  The cost to upgrade from one to another is the difference in price.  For example, if you start out by registering Classic Standard, and then at a later time you wish to upgrade to Advanced, the cost is only $30.

PC Magazine's Review of AnyBook!
Great News!.PC Magazine, one of the computer world's most respected informational sources and known for its demanding and thorough software reviews, has awarded AnyBook! an Editor's Pick Award.

This is the full review of AnyBook! as it appears on their website (ZDNet):

"AnyBook! is an accounting and inventory control system designed specifically for small publishers. The program very accurately targets these specific users with a well documented, thorough array of features. The form-oriented program can generate invoices, billings, and preformatted sales reports, as well as track consignments and inventory, although it lacks advanced touches such as import/export, email links, and flexible reporting.* AnyBook! is specifically aimed at small publishing operations, with functions for book returns, client mailing lists, discounts, taxes, and more. Accessible menu items and clear layouts ease the learning curve, as does comprehensive help and specific topics for getting started."  --Used by Permission, ZD Net

*Since this review was written, we have added dozens of new features including email support, reporting enhancements, and export/import capabilities.  In the Professional Series you can export invoice and sales data to spreadsheet, database, or accounting programs.  You can also export the entire invoice or statement for use in word processing or email programs.  The Professional Series also has a comprehensive import feature.

Reviews and Comments from Small Publishers

Anybook.is the perfect answer to a small publisher's inventory tracking needs. The well-designed program is every bit as functional as the big commercial systems...at a fraction of the price.  And the customer service is exceptional!

This shareware program is the most powerful tool I've found for small publishers.  It keeps track of customers, orders, payments and everything else a small publisher needs.

        (From the Laughing Bear Newsletter)

Thank you for such a wonderful product at a reasonable price.  It's the only one I found that does everything I need it to that is truly built for the royalty paying publisher. Several of my books have multiple royalty payees and this program is built for that possibility.
I started in the publishing business the summer of 1999 and started looking for accounting software that I could afford that would accommodate our company's growth. Once I tried out AnyBook, I knew I had found the right software.

. --Sandra Wellborn, CEO
    Waltsan Publishing, LLC

We find Anybook exactly fits our needs as a small publishing business. It is an exceptionally user-friendly program. The Help content is comprehensive and for the self-publisher with little or no business background a God-send as it not only explains what to do but why one is doing it.
The latest upgrade with its enhanced export facilities has enabled us to send orders directly to our fulfillment warehouse and for us, based as we are outside the US the currency conversion feature is a big plus. Furthermore the support available on registering is unbeatable. Using Anybook has made a very big difference to us. Thank you very much indeed!
